Sierra-Nevada Mtns

Mount Whitney in Wikipedia

Mount Whitney and surroundings

Mount Whitney is the highest point of Sierra-Nevada and continental part of the US,
its height is 14505 ft, and it is the first among Californian 14-thousnds peaks.
We passed this place many times during our trips, but in Aug.09 I specially
visited this country (Lone Pine) to take pictures at the sunrise. Ira was in Kiev.
At the sunrise grey ganite mountains become gold, it is extremely beautiful.
But it lasts only a few minutes, and needs to be caught. On the way from Lone Pine to
the climbers camp called Whitney Portal one can see interesting creature Alabama
Hills. It is also interesting that the distance between the highest (mount Whitney)
and the lowest (Badwater in Death Valley) points in continental USA is only 76 miles.
